With more than 2 billion cups of coffee consumed worldwide everyday, coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, very little behind the crude oil ; and it is one of the oldest commodity as well.
Yes, Coffee is the second biggest commodity in the world.
Which means the price of coffee is changing everyday, every hour intact, as traders speculate about it's price.
Farmers in countries like Ethiopia, Brazil and Costa Rica are dependent on the deals that are made in commodity markets thousands of miles away from their farms. In some countries entire national economies depend on the price of coffee.
However , the irony of the fact is that most of the profit goes to the commodity traders and very little to the individual growers of the beans.
If we talk about the smell of the coffee, which is absolutely phenomenal, when we come in contact with it's aroma our body automatically gets physiological responses. It suddenly activates the senses in human body due to its strong and unique aroma.
So! What makes coffee so captivating and intriguing that the body certainly reacts so promptly and powerfully. It contains caffeine, the most commonly used psychoactive substance in the world beside Soft Drinks, Teas and Chocolates. Yet coffee remains the biggest source of caffeine. In fact, it is considered most healthy amongst all the others. It basically contains caffeine which is a stimulant which can help improve brain function and also may boost human metabolism.
However there are many merits and demerits of drinking coffee too, which cannot be ruled out and which rather depends on the consumption and other various factors while consuming it.
Advantages of drinking coffee
It boosts your physical performance.
It may help you lose your weight.
It helps you burn fat.
It lowers the risk of early death.
It reduces the risk of cancer.
It helps you focus and stay alert.
Disadvantages of drinking coffee
However even though there are numerous positive effects of drinking coffee, it can be harmful in some cases as well, for instance:
If consumed lately in the day or if consumed excessively, it can cause insomnia and restlessness.
Also if you have high cholesterol, the consumption must be limited to a certain extent.
